2024 brings some decent waves for Malibu

As we awoke to 2024 , Malibu surf has been through some of the best waves of the winter season. Even though under the last day of a quality advisory, most westerly areas did see the deluge of rain expected, so runoff has been minimal, however the powerful tides have also stirred up every on land as well as the depths below.

Nonetheless, surfers of all ages were out riding the remainder of this last intense well with Zuma finally opening up to better conditions. Leo Carrillo has settled a bit on intensity but shape and break direction is the same as before. Countyline has kept its right break just less volume and Surfrider has mellowed to fun size. The wave shape was decent throughout the day but lower tides made navigation and paddling a bit easier with less volume of waves and depth.

As for me, I’m sitting this one out watching the Rose Parade like I have years ago on the New Years Day. Now as new tradition with my wife, we had the day to be mellow and spend some relaxing time.

Be sure to checkout the aquatic music themed floats. I find the work that goes into these floats are quite interesting and thoughtful.

Be safe & we’ll see you on the beach!
